Our Impact

Heartbeat’s purpose is to amplify the voices of youth musicians in areas fraught with divisions across the world. Using music education as a medium for transferable learning, our youth ensemble members build equal, social relationships in places where there are practically no safe, equalizing spaces between young people from diverse backgrounds.

Throughout the Heartbeat process, in stark contrast to the divisions and inequalities around them, Heartbeat participants come to deeply trust one another, respect each other as complete equals, and recognize each other as partners in building a mutually beneficial future for all. When students return to their normal lives in between Heartbeat programs, they much more clearly recognize the power dynamics in society–as well as the patterns of violence, and inequality–that exist between their communities.

Participants from all backgrounds consistently report a sharp increase in self-confidence, communication and leadership skills; commitment to civic engagement; and capacity to effect change within and between their communities.

 Our Reach

Heartbeat programs have reached over 5,000 individuals in Israel/Palestine through performances and workshops, and over 10,000 individuals internationally through five US Tours and three international exchanges.

Heartbeat youth musicians’ original compositions and music videos have been downloaded or viewed by over 150,000 people worldwide. In addition, Heartbeat has released one full album and 2 EPs. Over 30 of those songs were co-written by Heartbeat Israeli and Palestinian youth musicians.
